Retinoids (retinol, retinal, and the gentler plant alternative bakuchiol) speed up cell turnover, smooth surface texture and stimulate collagen over time. Korean formulas tend to start at low concentrations with strong barrier support (panthenol, ceramides) so they're tolerable for sensitive skin too.
